How to prepare for the 2012 work year ahead

There’s no better time to prepare for the working year ahead than now. If you’re working between Christmas and New Year, then you’re unlikely to be that busy in the office. If you’re at home, then you’ve certainly got time for some planning in-between your hectic schedule of eating chocolates and watching festive TV!

In all seriousness, planning for the year ahead is a great way to ensure success. Good planning helps you to identify what you want to achieve and how to go about achieving it. It makes all the difference between the type of worker who just coasts along and the type of worker who, well, makes a difference!

Here’s what to do…

1. Get out some paper and pens. Writing down your ideas helps you to capture them properly.

2. On one sheet of paper, brainstorm about all of the things that you’d like to achieve next year. Write down absolutely everything that comes to mind, no matter how small or how big.

3. Then, spend some time reading through your ideas. Which ones appeal to you the most? Select up to ten of the best and you’ve got your goals for next year.

4. Next, write each goal on a separate piece of paper. Underneath each, write down what each goal would look like when it ahs been achieved. Visualising your goal helps you to understand what you need to do to get there. Once you know that, you can create a plan for each goal.

5. If one of your goals is to get a new job, call your local job agency in January!
