Weathering the Storm

Get the facts.  Don’t listen to rumours or speculation from other colleagues, you may be worrying about your job security for nothing.  Have a confidential meeting with your manager or with HR and ask outright whether your job is in jeopardy.  It is better to know the facts so that you can prepare.

• It’s always a good idea to update your CV from time to time.  You never know when you may see a dream job that you would like to apply for, or meet someone with excellent contacts in your desired organisation or industry.  Don’t forget to include your current role and summarise any recent training or achievements.

• Get a feel for the job market.  There’s nothing wrong with visiting a recruitment website and checking what type of roles and salaries are currently on offer.

• Speak with an employment agency.  If you are serious about moving jobs, or if you think your job is in threat of redundancy, do speak to the professionals.  Adecco offers interview training, CV support and ongoing career advice for its customers.

• Go through your ‘black book’.  Get in touch with ex-colleagues, classmates or professional contacts and take some time to meet them for a drink or coffee.  This is a great way to gauge the state of your industry or profession and remind everyone of your enthusiasm and abilities!
