Adecco Cheltenham are thrilled to be recruiting for an Applications Engineer on behalf of our growing Gloucester based client who are a fantastic employer to work for!


The Applications Engineer will be responsible for developing products and solutions for customers through product demonstrations, applications development, design and contract measurement.


Please note that this role will be based in Gloucester at times but will also require the individual to work at customer sites across the UK as well as Ireland; so the successful candidate will need to have flexibility with working hours, travel and overnight stays when it is required by the business. We are looking for applicants who have an understanding of quality equipment and machinery, which could be gained from a variety of backgrounds.


Duties will include:



  • Supporting the sales team with specific technical knowledge and advising lead times/solution methods.

  • Providing product reports to existing and prospective customers.

  • Demonstrating products face-to-face to existing and prospective customers onsite and inhouse; bringing your own style and personality but tailoring your approach to the customers at the demo.

  • Developing and designing custom fixturing, automation and programming solutions to add value to the product range.

  • Supporting, managing and delivering contract measurement services to a high standard.

  • Travelling to customer sites to complete installations, calibration, commissioning and training.

  • Diarising the maintenance schedule for future customer visits.

  • Providing remote support (pre and post sales) to the internal sales team and customers.

  • Attending exhibitions and trade show, providing specialist application support.

  • Assisting with the creation of customer training materials through various forms of media (ie. presentations, manuals and video) - this is a big project area for the department this year.

  • You'll be managing your own time: there is no one to schedule jobs or your diary, even when you're out on the road. You'll need to be organised and able to manage your colleagues' expectations of when to expect completion of tasks - and you'll be able to stick to the deadlines you've given yourself!


The successful candidate:



  • Possesses an understanding of Quality machinery and measuring equipment. This will have been gained from an engineering background, but our client is really open! You could be an Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Graduate (Degree level or HNC/HND level or equivalent) or be a prior apprentice with hands-on engineering experience but the ability to speak with customers. The ideal candidate would be someone who has worked in an Inspection/Quality role, or an experienced Applications Engineer - however it is all about the person!

  • Gregarious in nature, you'll love speaking with new people! You'll be confident and able to speak with customers at all levels; from MD/board level through to Team Leaders. You'll be able to adapt your approach according to your audience.

  • Switched on, huge lover of technology and able to grasp technical information and new machinery. Our client is looking for a self-professed 'geek!'.

  • Someone who is happy to get stuck in with tasks outside of their official job description: my client is a family-run business so everyone chips in to the weird and wonderful!

  • Has the ability and want to travel with work. You'll have a full valid passport with no travel restrictions, and a full driving license.

  • Able to work flexible hours and adapt to changing work schedules to include spending time away from home. As above, you'll be away on business on average 2 days a week (bearing in mind this is an average over the year, some weeks you may be office bound all week and some weeks you could be out all week - others you may be in and out).
