Adecco Stevenage are currently recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a family run business in Stevenage. This role is unique and will require the successful candidate to take on all areas of accounting... you will be the sole person working in the accounts team and you are required to be extremely confident in your abilities, proactive and able to multitask all accountancy duties.


Job Purpose:



  • Compile and analyse financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly, quarterly and annual accounts

  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures

  • Manage and process payroll weekly and monthly


Core Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Establish, monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures

  • Reconcile all accounting discrepancies and irregularities by collecting and analysing account information

  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met

  • Develop and maintain NAV financial database

  • Oversee accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses

  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and integrity of financial data

  • Prepare financial statements and documents such as invoices, bills and accounts payable and receivable

  • Prepare, reconcile and submit Quarterly VAT Returns

  • Collect, analyse and summarise account information for the Managing Director

  • Prepare month end journals, prepayments, accruals, stock and depreciation

  • Keep up to date with financial policies, regulations and legislation

  • Prepare weekly and monthly payroll, annual PAYE returns, P11D and any other compliance work

  • Ensure all new financial reporting requirements are appropriately communicated throughout the Company

  • Prepare payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursement

  • Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations

  • Prepare periodic financial reports as requested by the Managing Director by collecting, analysing and summarising account information and trends

  • Check and process business expenses and ensure credit card statements are accurate and are operated within Company policies

  • Undertake multi-currency bank reconciliations and credit control, communicating with customers and suppliers to send prompt payment and monthly statements

  • Maintain a record of Research and Development Claims liaising with the Development team monthly

  • Assist the Accountant to produce monthly management accounts and end year tasks

  • Liaise on an ad hoc basis with external stakeholders regarding, Health & Safety, Insurances, suppliers etc

  • Undertake any ad hoc tasks and works that may be required within the office including answering the telephone



Person specification



  • Part or newly qualified

  • Analytically minded

  • Experience of Excel including Pivot tables and V look ups

  • Proactive

  • Confident

  • Can use own initiative

  • Comfortable working alone in the accountancy role, however within a team

  • Nav experience preferred but not essential

  • Happy to work for a small organisation where everyone helps each other
