Our client within public sector is looking for an experienced Building Control Surveyor to join their Housing Planning & Communities department. The role is offered on a 3 months contract based in Hounslow paying £22.74/hour PAYE or £29.43/hour (umbrella rate/inside IR35) working 36 hours per week.

The role reports to the Building Control Team Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out examination and inspection of Building Regulation submissions, plans and site work to ensure building works comply with Building Regulations, including some administrative work.

  • Undertake Enforcement of the Building Regulation function. Including Unauthorised Work, Contravening Works and Reversion Works

  • Process Section 80 Demolition Notices ensure all statutory consultations are undertaken and Section 81 Notices are served.

  • Ensure all reported Dangerous Structures are investigated, surveyed and where applicable Dangerous Structure Notices are served. Including recovery of costs incurred as a result of work to make structures safe. If requested join the Dangerous Structure Rota to assist in the provision of an out of hours emergency service.

  • Undertake enforcement of Dilapidated and Ruinous Structures

  • With training undertake other works such as Architectural Design, Fire Risk Assessments, and Party Wall Agreements etc.

  • Checking applications to ensure that the correct fee/charge has been submitted for Building Regulation approval and assessing costs were instructed.

  • Attendance at pre-application meetings with builders, developers, architects, etc., and members of the public, to advise on the design of appropriate projects and fees/charges in relation to Building Regulations and associated legislation.

Required Experience Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expert practitioner within the Building Control field.

  • Member of RICP or the Association of Building Engineers, or similar Professional membership

  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge in Building Act 1984, Building Regulations 2010 and all Approved Documents.
    Possession of a current driving licence and own transport.
    Ability to examine plans for compliance with all aspects of the Building Regulations.

  • Able to draft complex policies or reports and complex projects.

  • Ability to provide expert advice and assistance on Building Control matters.
