Chair, Primary Care Sheffield

Primary Care Sheffield (PCS) is a GP-led company set up to support Sheffield's general practices. Our shareholders are 71 general practices across the city and we also directly run a further seven practices. This gives us full citywide coverage for a population of almost 600,000 people. We align our business interests with those of our member practices and are committed to a social purpose with any surplus being reinvested into Primary Care for the benefit of patient care.

We provide a range of services both for patients and general practices, including:

  • Providing a unified voice for our shareholders as providers of primary care and their future development within South Yorkshire.

  • Providing education, support and referral guidance to GP practices for 10 outpatient department specialties.

  • Providing, General Practice, out of hours enhanced access, and sexual health services

Our vision and aspiration is that by working together and working in more flexible and innovative ways, we can not only deliver improved access for patients but also improve working lives of staff.

We are now seeking to recruit a new Chair of the Board to provide strategic direction, leadership and vision and be accountable for the Board's performance.

PCS has a diverse stakeholder community, therefore you will need to be adept at meeting the varying needs of shareholders, employees, system partners, commissioners and patients; you will play a key role in maintaining and building upon these partnerships.

With the ability to shape and influence, we are looking for a values-based and inclusive Chair who can uphold the values of the company and role model behaviours to other Board members and the wider PCS family.

While experience of working within a primary care or community care setting is only desirable, key is a proven track record of working in and across complex systems and managing multiple stakeholders. Prior experience of working at the most senior level, leading a board is highly desirable.

The appointment will be offered on an initial three-year term (with the option to extend for a further three years), remunerated at £24,000 per annum and a time commitment of three days per month.
