The role takes full responsibility for the people, systems, equipment and performance of the coldstore operation. The role will provide leadership and ensure compliance to company and legal requirements and will influence the improvement in performance of the coldstore.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain an efficient, cost effective Cold Store facility and meet legal, operating and customer service requirements.

  • Management of dry goods, cardboard and film stores including stock inventory and ordering.

  • Manage the end-to-end Cold Store facility from receipt and storage of raw materials to despatch of finished goods.

  • Auditing all Cold Store processes regularly to ensure compliance and efficiency.

  • Ensuring all standard operating practices are adhered to.

  • Lead, inspire and motivate a multi-disciplined team in the day-to-day shift activities throughout the Cold Store operation, delegating effectively to develop a sense of pride and ownership in team performance.

  • Provide hands on leadership to raise the capability of the teams.

  • Ensure teams are briefed regularly and are fully aware of site standards and procedures.

  • Implement initiatives to improve coldstore profitability, including throughput & pick efficiency.

  • Collaborate with cross functional support e.g. planning, operations, commercial and transport to assist the delivery of an improved profit.

  • Analyse performance information and communicate to team and managers.

  • Build an H&S culture to promote ownership of H&S within the Cold Store, ensuring compliance with statutory and company H&S requirements.

  • Perform health and safety risk assessments.

  • Establish and maintain a culture within the operation that supports all aspects of Lean Management.

  • Continuously identify ways to reduce costs and improve systems and standards in the operation utilising lean tools and techniques, to optimise efficiency and effectiveness of the operation.

  • Champion a culture of continuous development of the team through communication, training, coaching and ad hoc projects.

  • Promote the key values of Greenyard to achieve a high performing coldstore operations team.

  • Carry out HR related matters - monitor/manage performance and absence of teams, taking corrective measures where necessary either informally or formally through the disciplinary process; actively participate in the on-boarding and subsequent induction process.

  • Other ad hoc duties as may be required from time to time.

  • Experience in managing staff within a Cold Store or warehouse environment.

  • Ability to motivate, direct and lead a team, aligning mindset to behaviours and company expectations.

  • Manage all employee-related issues. Coach, train and develop all employees by showing a leading by example attitude

  • Have an investigative and problem-solving approach.

  • Able to lead by example and perform effectively by keeping emotions under control, particularly in stressful and difficult situations.

  • Awareness of health and safety standards.

  • Experience in setting and achieving KPIs.

  • Experience in using the SAP system.

  • Meticulous inventory control.

  • Able to forward plan and prioritise by anticipating possible demands.


  • Experience in lean manufacturing projects.

  • Experience in managing waste streams

  • Counterbalance and reach truck licences

Full driving licence (there is the requirement to visit other Greenyard sites and audit waste management company sites)
