Able to work with senior officers within the organisation to understand and agree communications requirements.
Deliver high quality communications campaigns, press releases, editorial for the council magazine, social media and so on.
Experience in local government communications, and particularly in Housing would be ideal. Able to work autonomously to a degree, supporting the team and working closely with clients.
Excellent account management skills are required.

PURPOSE OF ROLE:
The main purpose of this role is to support the delivery of first-class communications activity for the council.

To help with the development and running of communications campaigns and activities that support the authority in delivering its priorities.

To act as an advisor and supporter on communications to the council's officers and elected members.

To manage promotional activity across all media, ensuring that the corporate style and plain English are used across all council publications and digital media.


KEY OBJECTIVES:

* To support the Head of Communications in the development and delivery of communications activity for the council.

* To take responsibility for the development and delivery of key campaigns and projects as required by the Head of Communications

* To work collaboratively with services to understand their communications needs and develop well thought out creative briefings, campaigns and publicity.



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Corporate

* Work collaboratively with colleagues and make a proactive contribution to delivering council objectives and priorities.

* Deliver customer-focused services in alignment with both corporate and departmental aims and priorities.

* Achieve a high level of performance and effectiveness in the operational delivery of communications services.

* Support organisational change and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency.

* Manage the use of external contractors and suppliers, ensure work is commissioned and briefed effectively and that performance meets demand and represents value for money.

* Develop effective working relationships with officers and elected members.

* Support and develop partnership working, including acting as an effective ambassador and advocate with external organisations.

* Work with the council's partners and others to promote a positive image of the London Borough of Hounslow.
Functional
* Provide relevant and sound professional and technical advice and support to council officers and elected members.
* Help the Head of Communications devise and deliver a wide variety of creative campaigns and activities (internally and externally) in support of the council's services and priorities.
* Support the Head of Communications in managing the council's day-today media relations, helping ensure enquiries are dealt with promptly and that news is disseminated effectively.
* Support the monitoring of coverage across all news media, ensuring the authority has the ability to grasp opportunities when presented and deal with any adverse coverage quickly and effectively.
* Work closely with the Head of Communications, Communications Managers and digital communications and design team in ensuring the effective production of key council publications, and in developing new communications techniques / channels.
* Support the Head of Communications in writing, promoting and developing Hounslow Matters generally, and in evaluating its effectiveness and popularity with residents and other stakeholders.
* Contribute articles to other council media, including 7-Days employee newsletter, Members Matters councillor newsletter,and enewsletters to targeted groups..
* Support the development, promotion and upholding of a strong brand for the council.
* Contribute to the communications database of key contacts and stakeholders, including journalists, the communications plan of activities and council events calendar
* Work with the Head of Communications / Communications Managers in developing close relationships with the council's partners and other key organisations in the borough. Support the Events team in the promotion of events and help deliver the events from time to time.
* Support other areas of the Communications and Events team when needed - e.g. during crises.
* Undertake any other duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of this post.
* Be prepared to work evenings, weekends or occasional public holidays as required, e.g. to attend council meetings, help at events etc.
