An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Compliance and HR Officer to join a public sector organisation based in East London.

The role will be working with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) and the successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring compliance with current data protection law. The postholder will take lead in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the PRUs data protection processes and advise on best practice.

The successful applicant will have a background in data protection. HR/data protection experience working within a school, pupil referral unit or education establishment would be preferable, managing complex HR matters and data protection compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead data compliance activities and assurance, ensuring risks are managed and controlled in relation to data security

  • Managing complex HR and staff related matters

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the school's processing operations, information systems, data security processes and needs

  • Reviewing and revising of current policies and practices across the organisation to ensure compliance

  • Be the contact point for the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), assisting and consulting where necessary

  • Be the point of contact for individuals whose data is processed, responding to freedom of information requests

  • Report to the management committee on the school's data protection compliance and associated risks

  • Work closely with other departments and services to ensure GDPR compliance, such as HR, legal, IT and security

  • To undertake additional duties associated with school business management, procurement and compliance as requested

  • Lead on recruitment processes, including overseeing the induction of new staff, maintaining staff conduct, undertaking regular training and development, one-to-one meetings, monitoring of attendance, etc

  • Lead and manage all matters relating to HR to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective human resource service to staff, and ensure compliance with personnel policies and procedures
