We are currently recruiting for two part time counsellors to provide short term individual counselling to patients to achieve their full potential, maintaining professional standards through clinical supervision, ongoing training and keeping patient records in accordance with BACP Ethical Framework and UCS policy.



The first role will be offering 21.75hrs per week, the second will offer 14.5hrs and is paying £21.01 per hour.



Duties involved:


Undertake individual therapeutic counselling with staff and students including:



  • Assessment of patients presentation and mental health

  • Assessment of risk and suitability for short term counselling and/or onward referral, taking urgent action as appropriate

  • Maintaining a case load of patients in line with UCS policy and working to the Service's agreed short term model

  • Keeping patient notes as required

  • Providing evidence at patients request for Extenuating Circumstances in line with UCS policy

  • Liaise with staff and other relating to students causing concern

  • Use UCS policy and procedures including Safeguarding Policy, Data protection legislation and BACP ethical framework to inform work with patients

  • Organise and attend regular supervision



Skills and Experience required:



  • Degree level qualification or equivalent

  • A professional qualification on Counselling or Psychotherapy (diploma or higher)

  • Counsellor/Psychotherapist accreditation with BACP (or other recognised professional body)

  • Knowledge of adolescent developmental processed and understanding of the issues affecting students

  • Competence in risk assessment and ability to work with students in crisis

  • Flexible and responsive to multiple demands and critical incidents

  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with staff at all levels within a large organisation

  • Competent IT skills to be able to fulfil administrative requirements of the role
