Employee Relations Officer

6 month contract, Based at either Police HQ Middlemoor, or HQ Winfrith.

Operating within the ER Team and fulfilling the role of 'Professional Advisor' in accordance with the People Department Operating Model. Providing professional, specialist and technical advice to managers pertaining to the full Employee Relations (ER) remit including policy, legislation, regulations, and procedures.

The post-holder is required to lead the formation and continuous review of all procedures and processes that support ER Policies including planning, scoping, researching, reporting and recommending change and continuous improvement.

This role will also be responsible for assisting the ER Project Manager with the delivery of specific projects allocated by the Head of ER that can relate to local, regional or national developments

The role - you will:

  • Work as part of a supportive and high-performing team

  • Develop HR policies and procedures which will operate across two police forces; supporting the delivery of the force's missions and values

  • Ensure that HR policies are legally complaint, recognise HR good practice and are easy to understand.

  • Develop procedures that support both line managers and staff in undertaking various HR activities.

Typical responsibilities:

  • Fulfilling the role of Professional Advisor in accordance with the People Directorate Operating Model in relation to the full range of Employee Relations related activities

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with line managers providing timely and appropriate professional advice in relation to ER related policy and procedure, whilst adhering to best practice and current legislation.

    Coaching and supporting managers and providing support and guidance to the HR Operations Team staff in relation to ER policy and procedure matters

  • Undertaking comprehensive research and environmental scanning activities in relation to the ER remit, reviewing potential impact to existing force policy and procedure, and suggesting and developing appropriate proposals for modification

  • Managing the development and implementation of an appropriate range of procedures to supplement ER policies, seeking to produce creative solutions as to the appropriate way forward in accordance with departmental requirements, and undertaking appropriate consultation with all relevant parties

  • Regularly assessing current ER service provision, identifying and appraising options for change, recording opportunities for efficiency gains (and/or other business benefits) and developing recommendations for inclusion in a project plan (or other documentation).

  • Assisting the ER Project Manager with ER projects including all research and implementation aspects.

  • Contributing to ER policy formation where appropriate, providing innovative solutions and ideas for process simplification.
