The Employer Engagement Officer will be responsible for building relationships with employers to bring opportunities and support to the university, and for the development, administration, promotion, delivery and evaluation of the placement, internship programmes and graduate schemes, ensuring that students and graduates have the knowledge, skills and experience to secure graduate level employment. The Employer Engagement Officer will also take the lead in communicating and marketing to students, relevant staff, employers and other external organisations, in planning and delivering events and fairs, and will provide feedback on employer needs to the University.


1. To develop and maintain links with local, national and international employers and relevant organisations to secure suitable work experience, placement and internship opportunities for our students that maximise personal development.

2. To promote the value of work experience to students and staff across the University and to actively market work experience opportunities across the university, including managing the online student jobs and placement database, liaising with internal departments and students.

3. To plan and deliver events and fairs to bring employers and students together.

4. To work with students and ensure they are aware of, ready to apply to and able to take on work experience opportunities.

5. To work with the colleagues in the Centre for Student Success Team to ensure appropriate systems are in place for the students/graduates to record, reflect on and monitor the value of their experience.

6. To support the Employer Engagement Manager to scope the need for and suitability of, varied types of work experience opportunities including flexible work experience opportunities, for different academic subject areas.

7. To work with colleagues within the Centre for Student Success, Learning and Teaching and academic staff to embed careers management skills, academic skills and employability skills in the curriculum.

8. To set up robust systems and processes to ensure that quality and Health and Safety standards are met by employers/organisations that offer development opportunities to students and graduates.

9. To design, develop, monitor and evaluate robust systems and processes for the registration and tracking of employer and students on placement or work experience or internship programmes.

10. To effectively share data and information across the team to fully maximise opportunities secured.

11. To collect, evaluate and monitor relevant data and statistics to allow for strategic and operational planning and ensure the team is able to meet institutional objectives.

12. To take a flexible approach to work (attendance at early morning and evening meetings may be required).

13. To undertake any other duties, in line with the level of the post, and as directed by your line management.

14. To work in accordance with Equality and Diversity Policies.

Essential criteria

  • Experience of successfully working/negotiating with a range of employers and sound knowledge of current recruitment practices (public and private sector). (A/I)

  • Successful track record of meeting challenging targets for securing work experience and employment opportunities. (A/I)

  • Excellent IT skills with clear proficiency in Word and Excel packages and use of the internet. (T)

  • An understanding of graduate level employment and assessment processes (A/I).
