Adecco in Bolton are looking to recruit an Environmental Health Officer- Pollution Control- to work for the local authority on a full time interim basis. Bolton is currently undergoing multi million pound regeneration; the appointed candidate will be reviewing and assessing planning applications and the impact the works would have on the environment i.e., noise, fumes, etc.


  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health and be registered as an EHO with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board.

  • Applicants must hold a full, current and valid driving licence and a vehicle with a current valid MOT certificate

  • Available to work outside of normal office hours if required

Main duties for this role will include


To provide professional and technical expertise necessary to effectively carry out duties of an environmental health officer.


To effectively contribute towards achieving the Service aims and objectives in implementing the Council's policies and programmes relating to health and environment.


To contribute towards the Department's strategic aims and the Council's key priorities as outlined in the Community Strategy and the Bolton Plan.


To work as part of a team on specified regulatory work and related issues as required, and to contribute to the preparation of, and to participate in, the implementation of work programmes and strategies. To lead on specific technical areas.


To give professional and technical advice, as required, and to undertake specific duties as allocated in work programmes.


To instigate informal and formal enforcement action, as necessary, including the preparation of cases for legal proceedings and attendance in court as required.


To prepare and present reports as required and to represent the service as required at case related meetings, committees, meetings, seminars and joint liaison bodies.


To provide legal and technical advice to businesses and the public, as required, aimed at increasing awareness of environmental health issues.


To work as part of a team on specified parts of the service's work and related issues as required, and in particular in the following areas of pollution control work;

� The investigation and assessment of pollution related complaints/requests( for example noise; light and odour); for service of appropriate notices and the enforcement of relevant legislation,

� The assessment of the pollution implications of planning applications and other development proposals and the provision of appropriate input,

� Air quality management ;monitoring and supporting the delivery of the air quality action plan,

� Contaminated land and environmental information work,

� Assisting with permitted process applications; inspections and data analysis

The specific areas of responsibility may change from time to time.


To participate as required in the promotion of pollution control and other educational initiatives.
