Our client within public sector is looking for an experienced Payments Assistant to join their Finance department based in Wandsworth. The role is offered on a 3 months contract basis paying £13.49/hour (PAYE via Adecco) working Mon to Friday 36 hours per week.


Responsible to the Payments Team Leader for full range of payment duties.



  • Produces monthly timetables for the Payments Team Leader, informingPayroll deadlines for the month and ensuring that all deadlines are met.

  • Receives all printouts from payroll runs, balances control totals, carries out feasibility checks on payroll including spot checks on individual payment Checks all supporting documents for Starters and Leavers on all payrolls

  • Sends BACS payments for all payrolls and emergency BACS files incase of emergency paym

  • Maintenance and reporting of records for third party payments

  • Raising customer accounts & invoices on the AR system.

  • Creating requisitions on the procurement system.

  • Produces daily, weekly and fortnightly BACS payment files for amounts up to £10,000,000 for the accounting and housing benefits services.

  • Responsible for submission of payslips files to CFH for printing.

  • Makes payments of amounts deducted from payroll for tax and National Insurance to HMRC

  • Processing recalls from banks and building societies as requested by the payroll section

  • Assists with the end of year reconciliation on all monthly payrolls, P60s and P11Ds


Required Experience, Skills and Qualifications:



  • Finance administration or Payments processing experience

  • Knowledge of Payroll, Accounting process is beneficial.

  • Good verbal and written communications

  • Competent with MS office and IT systems.
