1. To work effectively as part of the Council's Childrens, Housing and Adult Services directorate, delivering corporate objectives through the work of the Housing Service.
2. To support the Health and Safety Team in matters of fire safety.
3. To promote a philosophy of putting service user needs first at every opportunity and to put in place management arrangements that work to action this.
4. To work with key stakeholders in improving service quality and promoting creative and innovative ways of tackling local problems, ensuring services delivered meet the needs of our community and are accessible to all users.
5. To work with other officers in Children and Adult Services and where appropriate other Departments to ensure services are integrated at the point of delivery and at the strategic planning level and to identify new opportunities for business efficiencies.
6. To support organisational change ensuring the appropriate systems of performance and development, communications, equality measures, monitoring and review are in place.
7. To adhere to the Council's Staff and Customer Charters.


1. To manage the capital budget for works relating to fire safety.
2. To ensure the effective management of the 'fire safety within residential communal areas' project.
3. To project manage the fire risk assessment contract.
4. To carry out fire risk assessments when required.
5. To carry out quality checks on all fire risk assessments (FRAs) carried out in the Housing stock.
6. To co-ordinate internal and external compliance solutions and oversee the implementation of all actions arising from FRAs, reporting to the departmental leadership team when deviations occur.
7. Influence, develop and review fire safety policies, procedures and related documentation in accordance with current legalisation, technological advances and quality assurance systems.
8. Establish partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
9. Undertake routine fire safety inspections, for all locations, measuring the effectiveness of fire precautions measures, and advising on where defects/ non-compliances are found, creating action plans and oversee their implementation.
10. To support the senior leadership team in managing fire safety by providing performance reports as required.
11. To develop, implement, deliver and evaluate fire safety training.
12. To lead or coordinate on departmental projects relating to fire safety and associated issues as required.
13. To support managers and responsible persons in their understanding and responsibilities relating to fire safety.
14. To help the Health and Safety Team in investigating significant or serious incidents relating to fire and to advise, report and make recommendations on any necessary action.
15. To consult and liaise with the LFB, and other relevant authorities and organisations.
16. To achieve and maintain professional status and keep up to date with changes and developments in the field of fire safety and related areas and advise on any consequential changes in departmental procedures/practices.
17. Undertake such responsibilities as may be allocated to the post from time to time by the Electrical & Mechanical Compliance Manager.
