Adecco Aviation are very pleased to be supporting this airport operator in recruiting a suitable candidate for this important role.


As Head of Airfield Operations, you will provide strong leadership to both the aerodrome operations team and support the airside safety and assurance team whilst ensuring that the airfield operation meets its obligations in terms of regulatory and statutory requirements. You will drive continuous improvement to ensure that the airfield is delivering excellent customer service and operational and safety performance, whilst adopting environmentally sustainable working practices.



The main responsibilities for this role are as follows:




  • Leading and developing the aerodrome operations team;

  • Implementing and developing a robust Wildlife Hazard Management Plan;

  • Promoting and developing the Airport's Safety Management System (SMS) in partnership with NATS and other stakeholders;

  • Have full responsibility for the safe throughput of aircraft movements;

  • Assist in the production and maintenance of effective radiotelephony, airside topography and driver awareness training programmes and policies;

  • Be accountable for airfield maintenance contracts (AGL, pavement and grassed areas) to meet requirements of EASA/CAA regulation and to ensure a wildlife free airfield;

  • Be accountable for executing operations in accordance with the aerodrome manual, applicable EASA/CAA regulations, and key airside/safety performance indicators;

  • Where required, influence and effect change to meet the demands of the airside operation and business requirements;

  • Regularly review and develop an effective and resilient winter operations plan;

  • Continually drive to improve OTP;

  • Embrace and embed a safe work culture across all areas of responsibility;

  • Oversee the budget process for all departments and ensure that all departments have adequate cost controls in place;

  • Develop and regularly audit an effective department compliance monitoring programme; developing corrective actions and development plans as appropriate;

  • Develop and maintain a consultative and collaborative relationship with regulatory bodies such as the CAA, EASA, and the HSE;

  • Lead the development and promulgation of the aerodrome manual and all relevant airside documentation;

  • Manage the risk register for the Aerodrome Operations department;

  • Deputise for the Director of Aerodrome Operations in their absence



You will be educated to degree level or hold equivalent experience in a similar role and have significant experience in civilian and/or military operations. Previous knowledge of EASA/CAA regulations is essential as is expertise in working within an operational environment on an airfield. You will have proven leadership qualities and experience encompassing excellent communication skills, the ability to analyse and interpret data, technical presentation skills, systems development knowledge and the ability to deliver results through others.
