Our client within public sector is looking for a Highways Inspector to join their Environmental services team in Bromley. The role is offered on 6 months contract basis paying £15.69/hour PAYE working 36 hours per week Mon to Friday.

The role reports in to the Highways Area Manager and will assist in ensuring a safe street environment within a defined area of the borough by undertaking inspections to meet the Council's statutory responsibility as a highway authority. The role involves participation to emergency callouts and participates in winter service out of normal hours standby arrangements

Main responsibilities to include:

  • To inspect all operations within the highway to ensure compliance with legal, technical and other regulations and Council requirements

  • Ensuring that issues are dealt with in accordance with current procedures, customer service standards, specifications, policies and legislation, compiling comprehensive and accurate records of all highway maintenance activities

  • Undertake periodic Highway safety inspections of the streets and associated assets, identifying defects and ordering appropriate maintenance repairs and improvements in accordance with legislative and Code of Practice guidelines

  • To ensure accurate estimates of works orders are processed whilst demonstrating an awareness of budgetary control

  • Closely monitor all aspects of the work allocated to contractors.

Required Experience Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in Highways or Street works, or Utility reinstatement background is preferred. (Highways Inspection experience would be an advantage)

  • ONC/NVQ level 3 in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification or demonstrate suitable experience in civil engineering

  • Demonstrates a knowledge of street care processes, contract management and the associated service delivery through effective works supervision

  • Willingness to participate in emergency callouts and participates in winter service out of normal hours standby arrangements

  • Work from any offices as directed or other location agreed by management and be flexible in working arrangements to accord with the exigencies of the service.

  • Have attained accreditation in accordance with the Qualifications of Supervisors and Operatives Regulations under NRSWA 1991 is desired
