Job purpose:

To advise and assist those referred who are threatened with homelessness/homeless, inadequately housed and where vulnerability is due to being a 16/17 year old, having mental health issues, learning disability, alcohol/substance addiction, physical impairment or other special need.

Main responsibilities of a Housing Support and Resettlement Officer:

  • In conjunction with client draw up a holistic support and resettlement plan and sign post clients where necessary to access relevant services i.e. Debt Advice, wellbeing services, Department for Works and Pensions etc

  • To assist the Options & Assessment service, where necessary, to conclude their homeless investigations and to prevent/delay homelessness by undertaking home visits and helping to obtain any necessary documentation or relevant information.

  • To provide support to applicants in relation to achieving the tasks within their Personal Housing Plans and supporting them to maintain or secure accommodation under the Homeless Prevention or Relief Duties

  • Liaise with housing providers where problems arise and mobilise, if necessary social workers or assistance from other professionals as required and deliver time sensitive support to prevent the loss of tenancies for vulnerable clients.

  • Maximise the use of the Bromley Welfare Fund and other Charitable resources to provide essential living items to enable clients to move from emergency temporary accommodation/supported schemes to their independent tenancies.

  • As part of homeless prevention, mediate with family/ friends and landlords to reduce the need for temporary accommodation and manage the expectations of all involved with the view to achieving the best outcome

A housing support and resettlement officer must have:

  • .Knowledge of Homelessness Legislation and best practice

  • Knowledge of homeless prevention and housing options schemes

  • Good working knowledge of immigration and related social welfare legislation

  • Experience of working within a Housing/ floating support environment carrying out needs assessments, providing housing advice, promoting housing options and delivering housing related support

  • Knowledge of Local Authorities duties to homeless households.
