A fantastic opportunity has emerged to join one of our housing clients in Solihull as a Housing Options advisor:

The post holder will be working from the office/home and is expected to focus on the prevention of homelessness and ensure their statutory functions are carried out in accordance with the relevant legislation. There will be a requirement to manage complex cases and to determine and apply legislative requirements through to decision-making.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday) and the successful candidate will be expected to have knowledge of/experience in:

1) To process and investigate applications for housing accommodation including those cases who are homeless and threatened homelessness, having a clear focus on preventing or relieving a person's homelessness, making such inquiries as are necessary to determine what duty is owed to customers under the Homeless Reduction Act

2) To maintain regular contact with homeless households in temporary accommodation, ensuring that appropriate support is made available.

3) To work to reduce the number of households in temporary accommodation and budget hotels ensuring targets are met.

4) To ensure that advice and information about homelessness and prevention of homelessness are readily available. Provide positive outcomes for customers using a full range of housing options and empowering where possible.

5) Carrying out referrals to appropriate supported housing schemes, identifying support needs, and following up where referrals are unsuccessful.

6) Working with Landlords, Housing Associations, the Fire Service, Police and Domestic Violence Teams, etc. to assess properties for the installation of safer homes.

7) Working in partnership with voluntary and statutory sector organisations, including the police and domestic abuse teams. signposting customers to specialist support services as required (for example, advocacy services.

8) Working with a range of accommodation providers to find appropriate accommodation suitable for the customers' assessed needs.

9) To conduct reviews, as required.
