HR Adviser

Our client, a rehabilitation centre for ex offenders are currently recruiting for a HR Adviser to assist with providing payment to all employees including maintaining payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data within required timescales.

*This role requires a DBS (Criminal record Check) and if successful the candidate will be required to obtain a DBS**

  • Pay rate: £21,000-£27,000 per annum

  • Type: Fixed Term Contract, full time, 35 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process, reconcile and maintain all three monthly payroll legal entities. Helping to ensure all deadlines are met and in line with all internal policies and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate records to assist with monthly invoicing, reconciliations and both internal and external audits.

  • Respond to all customer issues and queries in a professional manner and within agreed timescales in line with the HR Helpdesk's Service Level Agreements.

  • All payroll activities are checked in conjunction with internal procedures to ensure they are accurately processed.

  • Liaise with Payroll Manager on an on-going basis to address any internal queries and personal development needs.

  • Help to reconcile all payrolls on a monthly basis and prior to each year end process.

  • Help to process End of Year & RTI submissions ensuring accuracy and on deadline.

  • Assist with the processing of Auto Enrolment through Payroll Software.

  • Be responsible for processing BACS payments in line with client schedules, ensuring that salaries and third party payments are paid accurately and on time.

  • Assisting with the administration of the HR Inbox and taking phone calls on a daily basis.

  • Assisting with the timely administration of all pension schemes currently in use within the company.

  • Ensure all expenses are reconciled, paid and audited in adherence to current company policy.

  • Ensuring all filing and scanning is up to date.

  • To support with payroll projects in conjunction with the Payroll Manager.

Essential Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Payroll Adviser covering a 2 year period.

  • PAYE knowledge covering all aspects of payroll processing which includes End of Year (EOY), Real Time Information (RTI) & Auto Enrolment.

  • Good Microsoft office skills.

  • Ability to calculate manual payroll calculations including statutory payments.

  • Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative showing a pro-active approach.

  • Able to communication at all levels within the organisation.

  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage and prioritise their own workload.

  • Exceptional attention to detail ensuring work is of a high standard.

  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously where necessary.

  • Knowledge of payroll related Tax Year End procedures and filing of returns to HMRC.

  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and in line with GDPR.


  • Previous experience with Cascade HR and Payroll system.

  • Previous experience of working with a Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) including processing of year end data.
