We are currently recruiting for an Import/Export Clerk for our client based within the Portsmouth area. We are looking for a passionate and experienced candidate to join the team, you must be able and comfortable to work on your own initiative but also work well as part of a team as you will be communicating with multiple departments on a daily basis.

You will be responsible for managing the import and export of goods, ensuring compliance is always met. This includes managing all duties and tax schemes related to distribution and manufacturing worldwide.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working closely with our Warehouse and Purchasing & Inventory Managers

  • Develop and maintain trade compliance, management and reporting processes

  • Execute accurate customs clearance documents

  • Working closely with Management to assist in planning and managing the weekly workflow

  • Ensure that customers' expectations are met, and declarations filed according to Customs timescales

  • Maintain accurate customs paperwork/audit trails

  • Maintaining strong attention to detail always

  • Manage day to day operational queries or issues related to Customs compliance

  • Effectively manage relationships/monitor performance, ensuring strong accuracy and efficient operating procedures are in place at all times

  • Ensure that all international border crossing shipments comply with up to date rules and regulations

  • Manage all compliance audits internally and externally

  • Ensure weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to customs are issued

  • Prepare and submit accurate customs declarations for EU or NON-EU customers

  • Verify C88 document details such as the origin and customs codes

  • You must have an understanding of Customs Commodity Codes and be able to confidently understand and double-check manufacturer and commercial invoices

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of warehouse stock management and an understanding of Customs Commodity Codes. Previous expertise in customs/warehousing requirements within international FMCG is essential.

Experience with International freight - Air, Sea and Land - and their regulations/compliance is also essential.
