Inspection Team Leader

An exciting opportunity for an experienced inspector to develop their career as a Team Leader making a difference to the people and the processes involved in the Quality function. This is the next step in the generation of new working practices for a well-established business with international customers that is aspiring to achieve best in class standards in all facets of its operations.

  • 7:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday

  • Salary £24 - £28k per annum

The role

The role provides leadership for the Inspection Function; primarily at Final Inspection but will include other inspection points throughout the business.

The primary function is to ensure parts are received into inspection, correctly and accurately processed in a timely manner and dispatched on-time.

Main Duties

  • Provide supervision, technical mentorship and leadership to other inspectors; working closely with Operations, set, and monitor daily priorities for inspection team workload, enabling on-time delivery.

  • Working closely with the Quality Manager, ensure good quality inspection processes are maintained. Identify areas and make recommendations for inspection improvement.

  • Identify risks associated with inspection that will impact on timely inspection completion, and help create and deploy pragmatic mitigation strategies

  • Attend daily production meetings with other business functions to identify daily and weekly priorities, and co-ordinate and act upon these priorities in a timely manner

  • Ensure customer requirements in Final Inspection are met, and process customer returns promptly following the correct internal procedures

  • Set KPIs and performance targets in conjunction with the Quality Manager and provide regular reports (including trend analysis) showing achievement

  • Take an active role in initiating corrective action processes, eliminating defects and repeat issues.

  • Ensure absenteeism within the team is minimised and managed, and ensure appropriate cover is always in place to support daily production requirements

  • Ensure that any specialist measuring equipment remains within calibration limits through monitoring of required recalibration dates

  • Ensure use of all consumable items by the team is properly monitored and that replenishment orders are placed within the specified lead times to avoid stock-outs

  • Professional, highly motivated, and strong-minded person with an eye for detail.

  • Thorough and disciplined approach to inspecting parts and paperwork, the role requires good organisation skills and a methodical approach to planning to ensure that team resources are utilised as efficiently as possible.

  • Good inter-personal and effective communication skills to be able to interact with credibility at all levels in the organisation.

  • The nature of the role will result in inevitable peaks in workload, which will require the ability to work flexibly on occasions, including some possible weekend working. The successful candidate will be good-natured with a calm but have a very strong work.

  • The successful candidate should be IT literate, and comfortable using Excel, Word and PowerPoint to a reasonable standard of proficiency.
