Interim READI Programme Manager - £24.42 p/h PAYE


This role is based within a Local Authority in East London, initially for 6 months.


Main Purpose


You will lead on helping the Council in delivering its READI vision and related Programme come alive, ensuring the pace remains strong, until the permanent recruitment process has been undertaken. Specifically you will be responsible for managing the programme for Race, Accessibility, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, driving forward the change required, improve, develop and implement actions from



  1. The Council's own self-assessment regarding where it stands at present regarding this agenda and

  2. The recent, Race, Accessibility, Equality's, Diversity and Inclusion Review (READI) conducted by the Local Government Association

  3. Lead and develop the communications plan with the communications service

  4. Prepare the way for phase two-the borough review


Key Objectives



  • You will lead the READI Programme and inspire and with teams across the Council to deliver a wide range of actions and projects that improve opportunity, outcomes and inclusion for all staff and residents across the borough in the drive to achieve excellence in the Local Government Association's Equality Framework for Local Government (EFLG). Ultimately realising a mainstreamed approach that will make the vision a reality.



  • You will lead and inspire READI nominated leads across the organisation that will have the passion, drive and experience to accelerate this programme



  • To engage with and secure agreement from leaders across the organisation, staff forums, partner organisations, residents, communities, businesses and voluntary and community groups.



  • You will provide expert READI advice and guidance to the senior leadership, both officer and political, as well as making recommendations that shape future service delivery, strategy and culture.



  • You will lead on preparing for phase two-the Borough review element



  • You will identify and mainstream best practice across the organisation and within our policy framework, practices and processes, working collaboratively with senior leadership across the wider organisation to deliver a work programme supporting and delivering service and performance improvement which are aligned to strategic outcomes.



  • The role will stay up to date with all equality and inclusion legislation, guidance and good practise and use this to ensure the organisation meets its statutory requirements.



  • The post holder will be required to take on other duties commensurate with the post from time to time


Your Profile



  • You will have led a similar programme before

  • You will be an expert in all of the READI areas

  • You will be familiar with the EFLG

  • You will be resilient, solution focused and comfortable having difficult conversation

  • You will have a Programme Management qualification OR significant experience
