JOB TITLE: IT Technician
LOCATION: Lewes, East Sussex
PAY RATE: £11.90 PAYE or £15.40 Umbrella per hour
START DATE: January 2020
DURATION: 3 months minimum


MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:


This role contributes to the provision and support of the ESCC ICT infrastructure and core applications, which are critical in support of both front line and back office service delivery. The role needs to maintain a good knowledge and understanding of its specific technology area and how it is used within ESCC and by partners. The role is responsible for planning and organising their own work and for providing support and advice to junior team members. It has responsibility for the overall ownership and management of allocated work, including customer communication and appropriate escalation.


Key Tasks



  1. Contribute to the provision of a high quality ICT service to ensure the achievement of departmental, service and personal performance targets including agreed key performance indicators

  2. Assist in the monitoring and review of the effectiveness of ICT services suggesting improvements to senior staff as appropriate to ensure services meet corporate and locally set quality and security standards, improve performance, and ensure best value for stakeholders and customers,.

  3. Plan and organise own work, support and advise junior colleagues as appropriate, having regard to the effective use of resources and safe working practices.

  4. Liaise with customers, stakeholders and colleagues as appropriate and recommend courses of action within scope and bound of the role.

  5. Participate in the delivery of the core objectives of the team completing identified tasks, work programmes and projects working flexibly, sometimes outside of normal core hours, in response to service demands as agreed with the Service Manager.

  6. Assist with the commissioning and coordination of external agencies and contractors.

  7. Assist with the delivery of ICT emergency and business continuity plans as required.

  8. Maintain and update paper and ICT based systems and records within a designated service area; accurately inputting and retrieving data as required ensuring data security and confidentially where appropriate and that entries are kept up to date.

  9. Responsibility for the documentation of systems, implementations, problems and changes as appropriate in accordance with best practice.

  10. Maintain an awareness of emerging technologies and best practice within the ICT industry

  11. Perform such other tasks as may reasonably be required by the line manager or service manager



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:



  • Able to communicate concisely, orally and in writing using plain English to convey clear messages e.g. able to deal with telephone queries, liaise with managers, staff, write basic communications



  • Attention to detail & accuracy



  • Good numeracy and literacy skills



  • Good computer/keyboard Skills



  • Ability to use own initiative

  • Ability to organise and prioritise own work



  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Analytical and problem solving skills. GCSE pass at grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language or equivalent experience

  • General knowledge of policies & procedures and legislative requirements relevant to service area

  • Broad knowledge of ICT technologies

  • Experience of working with Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Word and Excel

  • Previous experience in similar role
