We are recruiting for a Junior Packaging Engineer to take responsibility for the support of the Packaging Engineer in design, development and testing of new products, including dunnage for Europe. You will be supporting the client with a packaging analysis at 3 customers. This will contain on-site visits to understand/evaluate/analyse which customer parts would fit into their packaging range. You will ideally have some experience within an industrial environment, good spatial awareness and understand packaging solutions.


This is a full time, field-based role initially on a three-month contract. You will be required to visit customer sites across; Darlington, Crewe, Daventry and Dagenham.


Key accountabilities:



  • Supporting the packaging engineer to maintain the database of relevant packaging options, their application with reference to the market segment and their suppliers. to identify and manage potential tooling and packaging suppliers within Europe

  • To provide advice on the best potential packaging solution for each application, and to suggest appropriate suppliers. To manage the packaging adjudication process with all stakeholders

  • To support the packaging engineer technically evaluate packaging solutions offered by suppliers, and to organise and manage appropriate testing, to ensure packaging meets design requirements.

  • develop design concepts, prototyping, and production sample acquisition

  • To be able to use current automotive industry CAD software to review, design and illustrate supply chain packaging solutions which deliver supply chain cost savings to our customers

  • To keep and maintain accurate up to date records for all work completed


Qualifications/experience required



  • BSc degree in Packaging Engineering as a minimum

  • Good knowledge and use of packaging materials, in special plastic

  • Knowledge of metal materials packaging products is essential

  • Good knowledge of corrugated board dunnage and design of it

  • Customer facing role - ready for development

  • Interaction with senior leadership

  • Experience in 3D printing is a benefit


Skills and knowledge



  • Must have at least a training as a packaging technic or degree in packaging engineering

  • Must be able to use CAD software

  • Experience in packaging technologies with direct relevance to the automotive industry would be an advantage

  • Understand logistic challenges and benefits of standardisation

  • Purchasing and supplier's management skills

  • Highly flexible and adaptable, and able to operate in a demanding high paced environment

  • Be able to think laterally and be innovative

  • Good communication skills, especially with visual aides

  • Drive for results, takes ownership, delivers on commitment

  • Organised, precise.

  • High attention to details

  • To be able to work autonomously to achieve the required results

  • Ability to speak English and German
