Laboratory Technician


Duration: 6 months (Possibility of Extension)


Hours: Mon - Fri 37.5


Pay rate: £10.25 Up to £15ph


Adecco have an exciting new opportunity to work as a Laboratory Technician with an innovative, global technology company. Based in their modern site near Worcester


This is a unique opportunity to work with blue-chip international clients from the power generation, aerospace and motor sport sectors, who wish to utilise this cutting-edge manufacturing technology.


The main purpose of the Laboratory Technician will be to support the production, testing and characterisation of innovative metallic alloys.


The candidate will be mainly responsible for preparing and characterising alloys using in-house metallographic equipment. The candidate will be asked to operate, as well as maintain the equipment, and to create reports on the findings


Qualities we look for;



  • Previous Metallurgy working experience is desired

  • Experience in an industrial or research laboratory environment

  • Use of analysis equipment and understanding of data reported from these

  • Experience or knowledge of different alloy systems including nickel superalloys, titanium and aluminium

  • Qualification related to or in materials science, preferably metallurgy Or other relevant qualification and/or experience is desired

  • Experience with sample preparation (cutting, polishing, etching) and characterisation (microscopy)

  • Experience of examination of metallurgical samples including image analysis

  • Experience or knowledge of alloy heat treatment

  • Experience or knowledge of mechanical testing (creep, tension, hardness, toughness)

  • Knowledge of particle size analysis techniques



  • Able to work in a methodical way, with attention to detail, according to defined procedures

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)



  • Self-motivated and showing initiative



  • Deadline focused

Responsibilities;


The candidate will be mainly responsible for preparing and characterising alloys using in-house metallographic equipment. The candidate will be asked to operate, as well as maintain the equipment, and to create reports on the findings.


The candidate will also be asked to interface with subcontractors for characterisation and testing not available in-house.



  • Operating, maintaining and calibrating sample preparation and characterisation equipment.

  • Communicating with engineers to understand their needs, scheduling and performing work accordingly

  • Interfacing with subcontractors for work requiring equipment not available in-house

  • Participate in the development of the company in-house capabilities



  • Report writing on the metallurgical investigations.
