Lead Shift Engineer / Multi Skilled Engineer

As a Lead Shift Engineer you will be the key engineering point of contact on shift, organising and prioritising reactive and proactive tasks and maintenance. The Lead Shift Engineer is a predominantly hands on role, but requires someone with the capability and ambition to drive the small team on shift and be responsible for engineering delivery on a day to day basis, coordinating work plans and ensuring the team is working in a safe and compliant manner, with a strong customer focus.

If successful in your application, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the engineering team on shift and being the main point of contact for Management and Production, to ensure the smooth running of manufacturing and packing.

  • Work with the Engineering Team Leader to manage workload, holidays, behaviours, breaks and working hours/overtime.

  • Maintaining a sense of urgency, work with production to prioritise equipment breakdowns and production support issues, as well as directing the team to address issues as they arise on a reactive basis.

  • Using your initiative and organisational skills to work with the Engineering Team Leader to plan ahead and coordinate preventative, corrective and condition based maintenance work.

  • Ensuring the team are consistently working in a safe and compliant manner-ensuring we are working to legal and company standards.

  • Working closely with production Team Leaders within Production to build capability within their teams by providing coaching and training to staff.

  • Provide cover for the Engineering Team Leader and Engineering Manager if required.

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Carrying out fault finding and repair on all equipment and systems including steam, compressed air, refrigeration, water and other site facilities when required.

  • Responding to major shutdowns and assisting with upgrades.

  • Performing planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance activities.

  • Completing engineering documentation.

    To be considered as a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will have:

  • Served a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification and have experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer.

  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment, ideally pharmaceutical or food.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a high pressure environment as a team member is essential.

  • Technical skills that produce 'right first time' work appropriate to the business environment

  • A 'will do, can do' attitude to the role demonstrating the ability to stick with problems and resolve them

  • Be able to demonstrate excellent problem solving skills

  • Basic IT skills

  • Attention to detail

  • An analytical mind-set

  • Good communication skills

This is a full time role, working 39 hours per week on a rotation of early and late shifts of 05:45 - 14:15 and 13:45 - 22:15. Occasional weekend work is required, so a flexible approach to working hours is key.
