Role - Learning Support Assistant

Salary - £18,278 - 30 Hours per week/37 weeks per year - Term Time only apart from 1 week training

The successful candidate will be experienced in assisting learners with additional needs gain access to learning and should be driven by their passion to guide and support pupils in their journey through college life.

As this role requires safeguarding duties and promoting the welfare of students, the right candidate must be confident and compassionate and be able identify these needs and how to effectively action them.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • To provide in-class literacy, numeracy, and IT support to learners with additional needs

  • To provide general in-class support to groups or individual learners with learning difficulties and / or disabilities, as directed by the lecturer

  • To provide discrete individual support when required to build their foundation skills

  • To act as a scribe / reader in sessions and special examinations

  • To offer practical support to learners with a physical disability

  • To carry out administrative duties

  • To support learners with IT

  • To address concerns in terms of progress, personal well being or concerns to the tutor and team leaders

  • To maintain appropriate records in accordance to the college policies

  • To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the students

  • Provide emergency first aid treatment and support when required

  • To attend course team meetings

  • To attend learners review meetings

  • To liaise with staff members and other departments to effectively deliver responsive additional learning support

  • Carry out duties as a first aider when required

Person specification:

  • Level 2 Literacy and numeracy (alternatively willing to undertake)

  • Able to work in an organised and methodical manner

  • Working with students in a support role

  • Pleasant and helpful at all times

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Working in an educational setting

  • Willing to undertake further training relating to job post

  • Work in a professional and confidential manner with a high degree of integrity and flexibility
