We have a great opportunity to work within a University Library based in Central London. This is a temporary opportunity and is currently for 1 month. You will be working 35 hours per week and its paying £14.06.

Job Summary

The Universities Library opened in 1896 provides one of the best social science collections in any university. It supports the research and teaching of the school but also opens its doors to the wider world.

The Public Services Group of the Library is responsible for delivering a range of services to support people's use of the Library, including membership services, lending services, and use of the Archives & Special Collections Reading Room. Library Assistants provide face to face customer service from the Library's service points. Additionally, they are responsible for a range of clerical tasks which underpin the work of Library Services including data entry and answering user enquiries via email and the telephone.

The Library is a busy academic library with a diverse membership, including students, researchers, academics and members of the public. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a proactive and flexible approach to customer service and to assist in the work of other Library teams when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

Membership Services

� Issue, renew and replace photo ID cards for staff and associates of the school, including capturing and recording photos on School systems.

� Process applications for Library membership from alumni, members of reciprocal access schemes and members of the public.

� Verify and record information about the Library users on School systems as part of the registration process.

� Print and issue Library membership cards to enable access during advertised opening hours.

Reader Services enquiries and problem resolution:

� Answer more complex enquiries concerning the services and facilities that are managed by the Library, including circulation, locker hire, study space and group study room bookings, payments for lost items, the Library environment (cleaning, maintenance, noise, lighting heating, furniture), opening hours, additional provision for students and part-time students and services for users with disabilities.

� Answer user feedback and complaints and log replies on the database.

Other Specialist Services:

Administering lost item invoicing.

Administering the hire of Library lockers.

Administer online services, such as visitor application processes.

Providing support for users with disabilities including a buddying service, fetching items from the Library shelves & photocopying

To undertake other duties in support of the work of the library as may be required, particularly as services develop and change.

Experience of working within a busy customer service environment. Relating to face to face, using the telephone and email. Experience of using mobile devices and social networking tools in the workplace. Experience of working within Higher Education / Further Education or Retail is essential.
