Machine Operative

Running a textile machine to dye and print on block coloured fabric.

Using the fabric to run through machines before sent to businesses across the UK & World Wide

Many pieces of equipment used by Machine Operators are large, complex and possibly dangerous to distracted workers. To keep this equipment functioning optimally, the machine operator may have to perform on-the-spot inspections and repairs so as not to remove that machine from the production cycle. Operators usually have to maintain logs and report any defects or problems with the machinery to their supervisors. They must be intimately familiar with workplace safety regulations and follow the safety guidelines meticulously.

Dyeing Machine Operators often work in large, noisy industrial environments where they are required to stand for hours at a time. Working with dyes, detergents and other potent chemicals may present a respiratory hazard, so many workers are made to wear masks, and ventilator equipment while on the job.

All dyeing machine operators must wear safety masks at all times, gloves can be worn if required and clothing without loose, dangling parts; long hair must be pulled back, and necklaces, bracelets and large hoop earrings are forbidden because they can easily become entangled with quickly moving machine parts.
