Maintenance Technician

3 months rolling contract


Shift based role working 6-2 ,2-10 and nights 10-6, with weekend overtime

Overtime at enhanced rates of 1.5% for Sat Am 2% Sat PM, 2% Sun Am and PM and 1.5% for nightshift

My client award-winning Maintenance and Reliability team in Congleton is seeking to recruit a passionate and dedicated Maintenance Technician who will become competent in Process support. The successful candidate will be supported in learning, and then applying a broad skillset through ongoing training and mentoring.

Working within the TPM framework, this is a challenging role that offers a great opportunity to develop in an electrical and mechanical maintenance engineering capacity.

The role involves proactive and reactive maintenance activities and is shift based. You will actively manage asset performance, capturing data from interventions, building a body of knowledge to support ongoing activities through the use of our Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responsible for leading breakdown activity and ensuring appropriate communication and escalation occurs to relevant parties.

  • Electrical/electronic & Mechanical diagnostics

  • Support the controlled movement of machines and ensure any controlled machine moves do not jeopardise the safety of any personnel in the area.

  • Respond to breakdowns in a timely manner to minimise production downtime.

  • Individual to ensure appropriate Health and Safety measures are put in place for the containment. Prioritise work to ensure internal customer (production) satisfaction.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the equipment is handed over to production is a safe and operational condition. If this cannot be achieved, the individual is responsible for locking off the equipment and communicating to relevant parties.

  • Performs root cause analysis within prescribed business documentation to generate quick and effective countermeasures.

  • Generation of appropriate communication documentation e.g. one point lessons.

  • Data input into Asset Management system to record all associated information related to breakdown.

  • There is an expectation that, whereas possible, you will work extended hours to assist in the rectification of major breakdowns.

  • Perform routine PPMs.

  • Work with Cell Leaders and Segment Leaders to minimise impact of PPMs on production.

  • Document findings and corrective actions required using A3/8D problem solving templates or a Storyboard A3.

  • Review the content of the PPMs and offer recommendations for improvement.

  • Active involvement in the implementation of autonomous maintenance tasks Safety

  • Review and understand all Risk Assessments related this role.

  • Performs risk assessments prior to commencement of any routine or non-routine tasks. Continuous Improvement Activities

  • Perform root cause analysis on major breakdown events using A3/4D problem solving techniques.

  • Ensure 5S standards are maintained within stores area.

  • Critically review current PPMs with a view to improve their appropriateness and effectiveness.

  • Generate One Point Lessons to communicate learning throughout the maintenance department.

  • Lead cost saving activities to reduce operating expense - project support

  • Fully participate in activities that assist the development of Product Engineering, Process Engineering and Productivity Though Automation (PTA) teams.


  • Have good communication skills and be able to liaise with other teams and Cell Leaders.

  • Have a drive to follow though from plan to delivery of solutions

  • An understanding of the following improvement initiatives e.g. 5S / TPM / CIP / Lean,

  • PC literate and able to use MS office applications and preferred PLC knowledge (although not essential).

  • Demonstrates a logical and methodical problem-solving approach.

  • Have an HNC or HND in Mechanical or relevant Electrical qualification

  • In depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic and control equipment systems to resolve maintenance breakdowns.
