JOB TITLE: Network & Security Analyst
LOCATION: Remotely based initially, or in Wandsworth when safe to return to the office
PAY RATE: £45 per hour (Umbrella)
DURATION: 1 year contract
IR35 STATUS: Inside

Job Purpose:

The post holder will provide ongoing support and maintenance across the network and network security estate, reporting to the Network Team Leader.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day monitoring, configuration and operation of the SSA's Security Network Infrastructure, including, but not limited to Firewalls and IDS as well as Switching, Routers

  • Coordination of Penetration (PEN) Testing of applications including scoping requirements, explaining vulnerabilities to stakeholders and owning remediation tasks from start to finish.

  • Assesses the implications of proposed changes and advises on the change control process where necessary

  • Contributes to the planning of the SSA Network Infrastructure to improve and maintain performance, resilience and efficiency. Makes proposals for changes to that end and implement such changes as may be authorised.

  • Performs change operations in accordance with the approved change control documentation. Initiates change control requests where appropriate and obtains approval before introducing changes to the Infrastructure or any of its components.

  • Works with relevant project managers to deliver projects in a timely fashion as requested.

  • Resolves those infrastructure problems which the Service Desk Team have been unable to fix.

  • The post-holder shall adhere to security controls and requirements as mandated by the SSA's policies, procedures and local risk assessments to maintain confidentiality, integrity, availability and legal compliance of information and systems.

  • Performs any other duties as may be required by the Head of IT Services or Infrastructure Manager in order to ensure continued operation of the Council's IT.


  • Firewalling and network security

  • Experience of firewall configuration

  • Experience of router & switch configuration (Juniper switches advantageous)

  • Experience of IDS configuration

  • Experience with monitoring tools


  • Fortinet Firewalls

  • Knowledge of penetration testing and known vulnerabilities

  • Configuation of virutal networks such as VMWare NSX
