Job Description:

We are looking for a Development Chef with a strong culinary background, who still after a number of years cooking is inspired and excited by developing and evolving recipes, trialling new ideas and remain focused and determined to make them work. A sound knowledge of culinary techniques and food trends is vital. You'll need to be able to reflect on past culinary experiences to translate recipes into factory friendly commercially viable products and the ability to work with process and factory teams to resolve production issues. Previous experience of a food manufacturing environment is essential. As the site Development Chef, you will be tasked to develop products in line with briefs, meeting food values and cost parameters and identify potential areas of growth in developing the category. First class organisational and communication skills are also essential.

To be a successful product development chef, you will be a passionate foodie who enjoys cooking on the creative edge. So, you're going to be bursting with ideas for new ready meals, sauces and foods, and full of enthusiasm and culinary expertise to convince those around you that each product is the next big thing.

  • To work with our customers in Manufacturing, Food service and Retail, in developing product from customer initiated and own development.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To research our markets, identify and develop products that suit our customer's needs

  • To understand and evaluate the latest flavour, product and consumer trends in the market

  • To develop products that fit the capabilities of our factory

  • To develop products that meet the margin aspirations and constraints of our business and our customers

  • To evaluate current products and redevelop to maximise margin opportunities

  • To cook and present product to customers including serving suggestions

  • To work with all departments to ensure products are produced to agreed recipes

  • To deliver support to successfully scale up recipes from the test kitchen to the factory

  • To document and monitor all new product development samples, and prepare recipes for costing

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Experience with high quality cuisine, preferably in a professional kitchen

  • Experience in previous product development role would be preferable

  • Creative and innovative thinking, with and understanding of consumer trends

  • Commercial acumen

  • An understanding of ingredients and nutrition

  • The skills to develop recipes using factory processes

  • C&G 706-1 706-2 or Equivalent NVQ 1,2,3

  • Certificate in Food Hygiene.

  • Computer literacy

  • Experience in previous product development role.

  • Car driver/owner essential.

Hours of Work:

  • Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.00pm
