Seeking a Finance Control and Overpayment Officer to work from home and in the office within the area of Ealing.



3 months (possible extension)

£16.76 - £17.30 PH PAYE


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:




  1. To maintain a working knowledge and to keep up to date with welfare benefits legislation including Housing Benefit and Tax Support scheme in order to carry out financial control tasks and to maximise recovery of overpayments of Housing Benefits in accordance with Statutory Regulations and the policies, procedures and practices.

  2. To interrogate in-house and external IT systems to identify overpayments and obtain information on uncashed cheques/returned payments and take appropriate action.

  3. To carry out all Financial Control Tasks including: stopping, cancelling, re-issuing and returning cheques; dealing with returned BACS payments and queries; unidentifiable payments (CREST memos) and checking payments over the value of £3000 or other amounts as agreed, third party systems i.e. CIS. (Ensure compliance with Breathing pace legislation)



  4. To undertake activities which maximize housing benefit overpayment recovery and prevent fraud and error in housing benefit, tax support and discretionary housing payments as identified by the business

  5. To assist & cover for colleagues with reconciliation of all housing benefit payments made by the benefits system. Update the appropriate records as necessary.

  6. To liaise with IT team where there are discrepancies in the reconciliation data.

  7. To acquire and retain a comprehensive knowledge of the Benefits IT systems, Ash Debtors, Iclipse, Housing Rents and other benefit specialist software. Have a sound knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications in order to collate and retrieve information.

  8. To undertake activities which maximise housing benefit overpayment recovery via ongoing benefit, sundry debtors, PDP and other.

  9. To liaise with Corporate Collection team regarding individual cases and overall overpayment activities.

  10. To ensure that all financial control tasks are carried out within specified deadlines.
