Parks and Grounds Manager's Job Purpose:



  • To be responsible for the management of all aspects of the operational service delivering a range of cleansing and grounds maintenance services in parks and green spaces, highways and housing estates, to ensure that work is completed to agreed performance standards timescales and within budget.



Main responsibilities of a Parks and Grounds Manager:



  • Manage the delivery of grounds maintenance services across Newham in accordance with agreed timescales, performance standards and budget.

  • Act as the cost centre manager for the grounds maintenance operational service and ensure that sufficient vehicles, machinery, staff, equipment, materials and other resources are provided as appropriate to reflect the changing requirements of Newham.

  • Fully investigate all accident reports, near miss reports and staff behaviour and other incident reports and report the findings to Newham's Corporate Health and Safety Adviser with recommendations for remedial actions

  • Oversee the evaluation of new equipment and machinery, technology and new ways of working to ensure the continuous improvement of grounds maintenance service standards and efficiency, working towards an emissions free and carbon neutral operation.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of emergency and contingency plans and service plans for grounds maintenance operations.



A Parks and Grounds Manager must:



  • Have a understanding of modern, large scale grounds care and horticultural operational services in a local authority context

  • Have operational management qualification to NVQ level 4 or equivalent level of experience

  • Have a minimum 5 years' experience of operational staff management in an environmental maintenance or related industry

  • Ability to be assertive and decisive when dealing with staff and making operational decisions and to deal effectively and sensitively with potentially difficult customers
