Job Title: Parks Gates Operative


Main Purpose of the Job/Key Objectives: To open and close gates in parks and open spaces as per the Parks Byelaws. To also carry out litter picking in certain sites. The postholder will be required to work early morning and variable shifts in the late afternoon and evening throughout the year, including weekends and bank holidays.


Experience: The post holder should have some experience of communicating with all sections of the local community. It is desirable for the post holder to have experience in security provision


Qualifications: N/A


Working conditions/circumstances: The post holder must hold a valid driving licence and be able to make arrangements to collect and return a Council vehicle from any one of the park depots.


Duties:




  • Open gates and barriers as per the schedule.

  • All gates and barriers opened and secured within the specified times

  • Carry out basic check of parks and open spaces whilst opening gates and report any issues and/or hazards.

  • Parks and Open Spaces checked and any issues and/or hazards reported.

  • Close gates and barriers as per the schedule.

  • All gates and barriers closed and secured within the specified times.

  • Check that parks and open spaces are vacated prior to closing gates ensuring that people are instructed to leave using appropriate methods

  • Report any issues regarding anti-social behaviour or other incidents to the Parks Protection Service Parks Protection Officers provide support and manage any incidents whilst parks are being vacated and/or gates closed Litter pick key parks and open spaces, including play areas, removing any hazards, e.g. glass, as per schedule and identified by Parks Management Team Parks and open spaces litter picked when required and hazards either removed or reported to Parks Protection Officers.

  • Council vehicle to be collected and returned from park depot, completing vehicle check sheets on a daily basis Council vehicle used for work with check sheets completed and depot and vehicle left secure at all times.
