Our client within public sector is looking a Senior Planner (Housing and Benefits & Planning) to join their Spatial and Transport Planning team based in Wandsworth. The role holder will be working 36 hours per week Mon to Friday, paying £17.39/hour PAYE (£22.51/hour umbrella) on a 3 months contract basis.

The role holder will deliver a high quality, robust and transparent Planning Policy service and planning information ensuring decision making within tight time frames . Responsible for:

  • Managing the provision of a comprehensive and detailed data

  • Provide statistical support for the production of planning policies and the provision of monitoring information for the planning service.

  • Manage an area of planning policy, providing comprehensive and detailed policy advice on planning applications, pre-application advice requests and correspondence to agreed and identifiable timescales.

  • Manage key specialist projects related to planning policy and the monitoring of planning policy and its broader implementation within the borough, as allocated by the Principal Planner - Policy and Policy and Design Manager.

The role requires working flexibly across and liaising closely with both the Policy and Design team and Information and Business Support team as required to ensure compliance with requirements of the brownfield register and self-build and custom house building legislation and guidance.

Required Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience in local government policy work including preparation of local plan documents or equivalents and the preparation of supporting information and provision of a robust and comprehensive evidence base.

  • Experience of collating and analysing planning related information for submission to regional and national government

  • Comprehensive knowledge and sound understanding of national, regional and local plan making and associated legislative requirements and policy guidance.

  • Effective report writing skills including preparation of local plan documents, committee reports, development plan examination statements or equivalent.

  • A degree in planning or other appropriate professional qualification and a member of the RTPI or eligible for full membership.
