Our client have some fantastic opportunities for production operatives looking to expand their skills and develop into machine operatives. This company manufacture a wide range of boxes from retail ready packs and regular transit packaging, to complex die cuts and printed cartons for a wide variety of markets.

They are looking for several operatives with the view to train them up on their range of machinery within the factory.

Days: Monday to Friday inclusive

Rotating shift pattern

Week 1: Monday to Thursday 06.00m to 2.00pm/Friday 05.00am to 12.00

Week 2: Monday to Thursday 2.00pm to 10.00pm/Friday TBC

Pay: £10.00p per hour, increasing once you are trained

Job Description

Working in accordance with the SSOW, the machine operator is to manage themselves to optimise the running of production machines in the safest and most efficient manner to ensure that the quality and output targets are achieved whilst minimising waste levels

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the levels of Health and Safety, hygiene and housekeeping are maintained to a high standard

  • Set up and operate each section of the machine proficiently

  • Understand and execute the instructions on the specification sheets

  • Liaise with the relevant departments to ensure the correct quantities of materials are present for the job

  • Follow the Corr plan line up unless otherwise instructed by the Shift Manager

  • Work with the crew to set up jobs in the timeliest manner possible

  • Assess the first passes of the job, adjust if necessary, obtain sign off from the shift manager before proceeding with the full run

  • Throughout the run ensure the finished cases meet specifications, take regular samples for assessment, make any adjustment necessary

  • Provide and implement basic solutions to issues that affect the quality of the product and operation

  • Assess manual handling and make recommendations for improvement to your Shift Manager

  • Record all non-conformance's by completing the appropriate paperwork and record on the specification sheet

  • Monitor the efficiency of the crew, instruct and coach any member that is not meeting the company's expectations and requirements, of the standards they must meet

  • Stack and send pallets that will travel down the line and are fit for palletisation. Ensure all pallets are of a first-class presentation

  • Working with your crew ensure all cleaning and maintenance schedules are carried out to a high standard and in a timely manner

  • Immediately report any mechanical issues to the Shift Manager and the shift engineer. Work with the engineer to minimise downtime

  • Assist in the training and development of existing and new employees

  • Ensure that the resources within the job holder's control are used in an optimum manner reducing cost and waste wherever possible

  • Contribute ideas and solutions that will improve the levels of customer service and/or reduce costs at all opportunities

  • Maintain a positive can-do attitude
