We have an exciting opportunity for a R&D Lab Technician in based in the Barry R&D team. This role full time 40 hours per week and is initially until May 2022.

Job Summary:

We're looking for a practical and highly motivated individual who enjoys scientific challenge and implementing creative improvement solutions to join Barry Process R&D team. As part of the team, you will significantly contribute to Product development and technology innovation for Dow Performance Silicones.

The technologist role will include supporting product sample preparation and analysis, operation of lab scale and support lab maintenance activities. Good organization and communication skills will be needed to manage experimental change, and be able to document, present and communicate results and progress to technical teams locally and globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to safety and work to build strong safety culture in all office, laboratory and related activities. Ensure Change management procedure is followed.

  • Organize and Build new experimental set-ups to address problems or support technology development, hazard analysis, and change management as necessary.

  • Develop and implement experimental plans

  • Operation of lab equipment such as mills and mixers to produce samples.

  • Operation of laboratory and piloting process experiments (start, monitor, and shut down), record and report results and observations

  • Learn and use analytical equipment to test samples.

  • Be able to analyse results data and make recommendations

  • Good Communication of results through verbal and written reports, present data to R&D team members

  • Support lab facility and equipment maintenance activities

  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory - e.g., applying 5S principles

  • Perform laboratory chemical waste handling and packaging.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have excellent communication and team work skills

  • Hands-on approach in a laboratory and small pilot scale environment.

  • Ability to work independently with high level of demonstrated experimental execution.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and have a sense of prioritization based on value and efficiency

  • Self-motivated, high initiative, and good time-management skills.

  • Ability to use Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Experience with hazardous chemical handling, e.g. chlorosilanes is preferred.


  • Minimum a HND qualification / degree / equivalent in Chemistry or Chemical engineering.
