Research Development Manager

Our client, a leading college, are currently recruiting for a Research Development Manager to work closely with academics, researchers and their teams to encourage and support the development of high quality successful applications for external research funding, high quality publication outputs and high impact, and will oversee processes to ensure applications meet the expected income and quality requirements.

  • Pay: £45,259-£53,355 per annum

Job Description:

  • Drive forward the development and implementation of the Faculty's research strategy and associated policies and initiatives.

  • Be responsible for implementing research related external and company policies, such as those relating to open access publishing and open access data.

  • Manage the Faculty's submission to the Research Excellence Framework, and other relevant research assessments, will analyse trends in research outputs, research impact, and income to support Faculty reviews.

  • Assist in costing and monitoring research budgets as required

  • Work with the Faculty Health and Safety Manager to implement and monitor the Faculty's Health and Safety policy as it applies to research.

  • Proactively assist in identifying training needs and support required, with the aim of maximising the potential of research and academic staff at all levels, in particular early career researchers.

  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with relevant colleagues across the organisation.

  • Carry out such other duties as are consistent with the post.

Qualifications/Training required:

  • First degree in Health, Social Science or related subject.

  • Extensive research development and administration experience in relevant settings.

  • Relevant PhD or equivalent qualification (desirable).

Knowledge/Skills required:

  • Knowledge of the major research funding bodies for health and health related research, their programmes and remits.

  • Effective, practical and strategic understanding of research funding, including the funding of research postgraduate students, within the Higher Education sector.

  • Excellent IT Skills (e.g Office 365, Excel, Sharepoint, ResearchFish, Je-S).

  • Experience in a research administration role in a university, research institute and/or hospital.

  • Experience of preparing reports of outcomes, income, activity, research quality, with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Experience of developing grant applications to external funding bodies.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

  • Excellent team leadership, management and motivation skills and experience.
