Adecco Sunderland has a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established company who is experiencing a period of expansion and is therefore looking for an Underwriter to join their team on a permanent basis based in Chester le Street.

My client offers a competitive salary of £21,000 to £23,000 depending on experience.

The main purpose of the role is to evaluate and assess all applications for finance from direct customers and brokers and to Analyse the financial portfolio of a loan applicant. Assessing customer's credit-worthiness, their required financial lend all whilst reducing the company's risk all in line with company policies and procedures and the lending criteria, to offer a final decision whether to lend funds

The ideal candidate will have:

A background in financial services preferably with Underwriting experience

Exceptional written and oral communication skills

Excellent word processing and IT skills, including knowledge of a range of software packages

The ability to work on your own initiative

A keen eye for detail

Key Responsibilities:

To accurately assess the risk of an application ensuring that the loan is affordable, plausible and sustainable with an underwriting rationale applied to each case prior to funding.

- To pro-actively manage a pipeline of cases to internal and external SLA's.

- Protect the company from Fraud in promptly identifying fraudulent activity

- Protect the company from over-exposure, assessing potential risks and referring accurately to relevant colleagues if required

- Keep detailed and accurate records of agreements underwriter and decisions made.

- Communicate with the broker network effectively via telephone and electronically, responding to inquiries in an efficient and professional manner, building strong relationships

- To provide brokers and customers with accurate case updates at all points of the process

- Communicating with customers/Brokers to resolve any queries or issues with the application

- Ensure all aspects of compliance are met regarding data protection Act, consumer credit Act, and FS
