The purpose of this role it to protect the client's supply chain from Quality, Food Safety, Legal and Consumer Lifestyle hazards associates with raw materials through supporting in the creation and finalisation and review of the Raw Material Risk Assessment (MRA's) and Raw material specification according to the client's Quality Management Process, following the Material Quality Management Standard.



  • Jobholder is the owner of designated, complex raw material category, providing high quality end-to-end service throughout all steps of raw material life cycle in line with MQM standard requirements. This includes:



  1. a) material risk assessment;

  2. b) Specification management through systems and process;

  3. c) identification of the need for change in raw material specs;

  4. d) business process ownership in one of MQM-related areas.



  • Depending on the category of material, the scientist might work with existing Global Raw Materials Communities comprising Commercial and R&D associates across all regions, including local representatives and other Communities of Practice (e.g. MRA CoP). The Scientist has to work in close cooperation with other groups within R&D, SQA and Commercial.

  • Covers raw materials for numerous factories across the region.



  • The role will guide associates through the MQM process, providing direction and making necessary interventions. The role will feed in any process/system updates for the region and provide informal training for associates as necessary.

  • The role will also be the key point of contact for MRAs, Raw Material Specifications and Inspection plans for 2-3 classifications of raw materials.

  • Key contact for new material knowledge development in support of new and existing products and COGS initiatives for designated group(s)/category of raw materials.

  • Lead for material risk assessments and appropriate reviews for designated group(s)/category of raw material. In close collaboration with relevant experts (e.g. Global Science, Q&FS, PPTS, NPD, SQA etc.) identifying and managing Food Safety, Quality, Legal, Lifestyle, and Sensory hazards for Material, Supplier and Transport & Storage.

  • Lead for Material specifications development and appropriate reviews in close collaboration with relevant experts (Q&FS, Commercial, Supply, Suppliers), incorporating Food Safety, Legal, Quality and Functional parameters and limits.

  • Support of raw material specification implementation in the factories (e.g. factory inspection plans definition).

  • Development and maintenance of material conformance tracking and reporting systems.

  • If there are questions on shared specs with other chocolate regions, this role is responsible for answering questions or making connections with the right contact to answer the questions. If there are questions on specs from other regions, this role should give advice on regional requirements and ways of working.


Education:


BSc or MSc in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field


Knowledge/Experience:



  • Strong project management experience (across quality, efficiency and growth projects) with the ability to motivate and direct a technical team.

  • Experience of working in cross-functional project teams and multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Good understanding of food science including GMP, Quality and food safety risk management, analytical and microbiological testing approach, process engineering and food preparation.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Capable of dealing with a wide range of associates/stakeholders.

  • Strong organisation and planning skills.

  • Ability to maintain composure and positive working relationships.

  • Flexibility to changing priorities with the ability to work independently/autonomously.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Intellectually curious to solve problems, identify opportunities and follow through to implement.
