Education and Lifelong Learning are three important words for us in Surrey. Put them together and you will understand that we have a unique opportunity for a senior manager to lead and make a personal impact on the delivery of high profile services and transformation that impact on the lives of our children, young people and families.

We are looking for a leader who can support our Director and ADs to drive strong service planning and delivery, underpinned by robust performance and risk management. Rightly, our services - whether SEND, Children Missing Education, Adult Learning, School Admissions or Educational Effectiveness - come under intense scrutiny by our residents, Members, partners, Ofsted and the government. We are constantly striving to ensure that our policies, procedures and practice are high quality, compliant with statutory requirements and consistently applied by our diverse teams of staff.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Systems and Transformation - you will join a capable and motivated team. Some of the key priorities for Mary and her Leadership Team over the next 12 months that you will lead on include:
* Ensuring Education and Lifelong Learning has a strong service planning framework with clear deliverables, impact measures and review points
* Maintaining our self-assessment and preparedness for the expected ILACs inspection later this year
* Preparing our services for external changes and developments through active horizon scanning, briefing and advising senior leaders

This role requires outstanding organisational skills with an ability to influence, communicate and challenge with clarity and confidence. You'll be able to develop effective systems for services to identify solutions and to know the impact they are having for service users. You will have a deep understanding of the context in which local government services operate - legislation and regulation, financial and political. Alongside this you will have a genuine interest in the education and lifelong learning agendas and the connections with other agendas such as health, social care, economic prosperity, etc.
