Due to continued growth and investment we are currently recruiting for a Shift Manager to be based within a fast paced manufacturing environment. The role will be days based for the first 6 months; before moving onto shift which includes 12 hour day and night shifts on a rotating 4 weekly pattern.



The role would suit somebody currently in a Team Leader/Supervisor role who is looking to take the next step in their career with an organisation that offers a brilliant working environment along with excellent training and development opportunities.



The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for site operations and related support functions in terms of health & safety, people, quality, production efficiency and costs, for the duration of the shift.



Main Duties & Responsibilities



  • Ensure that all tasks within the site are completed in accordance with health & safety and hygiene policies, operational procedures and regulations, reviewing safety practices and making recommendations for improvement.

  • Set standards for performance within the site, monitor these standards and seek improvements.

  • Lead all process equipment from batch plant to packaging, all material handling equipment, all ware handling equipment and all plant and building during the shift.

  • Ensure hand over is controlled and maintain performance for the duration of the shift.

  • Optimise the performance of both the site and personnel in order to ensure the P&L.

  • Ensure shift production is delivered in line with customer expectations and requirements and quality standards.

  • Lead monthly team meetings, communicating on current policy plans, people, concerns and general information.

  • Communicate effectively within the shift and between shifts to enable accurate reporting of major events and requirements to the production manager, the following shift and the morning meeting.

  • Plan and control shift personnel holidays/sickness to ensure sufficient resources at all times, within budget.

  • Ensure staff are fully trained to the required standard for their relevant role.

  • Manage, coach, develop and engage shift personnel ensuring continuous improvement of performance and individual potential.

  • Ensure all administrative tasks are completed in time, to support shift operations efficiently.



Qualification and Experience Required




  • Engineering qualification or degree is desirable but not essential.

  • Background in team leadership roles within FMCG environment (multi departments, manufacturing processes, etc.).

  • Experience leading a high volume manufacturing process, including both production lines and people where quality/consistency was critical.

  • Production improvement working experience.

  • Proven record in people performance management with evidence of building, managing and motivating successful teams on a large scale, shift working operation.

  • Technical knowledge and understanding to be able to answer team member's questions and doubts. Understanding of site processes is desirable.

  • Ability to analyse root causes and implement decisions.

  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationship with colleagues at all levels.

  • Good level of communication skills across different levels within the organisation.

  • Competent computer skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
