Job Purpose:

To ensure the effective and efficient management of Kingston's Temporary Accommodation Hostels in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. To ensure properties meet the required health & safety standards, that repairing obligations are met, minimising voids and managing relationships with homeless households.

Main responsibilities of a Temporary Accommodation Officer:

  • Undertakes all hostel management activities, carries out sign-ups and undertakes voids

  • Attends professional meetings for more complex cases/matters

  • Makes decisions on more complex matters relating to licences, lettings and repairs

  • Ensures that voids are managed within target timescales and rent loss is minimised

  • Provides welfare benefits advice and information

  • Liaises with other services to resolve issues

  • Provides responses to more complex complaints

  • Provides detailed advice to customers, colleagues and partners on more complex issues, including terms of licences & serving of notices.

  • Analyses data relating to lettings and repairs and provides information for reports

A Temporary Accommodation Officer must have:

  • Knowledge of housing management law, repairing and health and safety obligations relating to temporary accommodation

  • An understanding of the needs of homeless households in temporary accommodation

  • Experience of working in a busy, front line public housing service or similar

  • Experience of public sector housing management to tenants and/or homeless households or similar

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to establish effective negotiation skills and working relationships throughout the organisation and with partners, suppliers and contractors
