Train Presentation Operative (Train Cleaner)


Target start date: 24/02/2021

Duration: 6 months (potential for extension)

Pay rate: £11.20p/h


Shift rotation - 5 on, 5 off, 4 on, 5 off, 5 on, 4 off

19:15 - 06:30

11hour 15 min shifts

All training will be provided

Purpose of Role

To clean trains berthed at train depots or agreed locations.

Principal Accountabilities

  • With minimal supervision undertake the cleaning of the allocated trains to meet the requirements of the production plan, complying with all local instructions and specifications.

  • Underframe cleaning (jet washing underneath the trains)

  • Cleaning the front of trains

  • Dispatching trains in service through relaying radio messages from the Ops Controller

  • Cleaning and maintaining 5s standards of the Underframe Wash area

  • Assisting with Fuelling and tanking when required

  • Emptying Controlled Emission Toilet (CET) tanks, when required

  • Assist other team members where appropriate

  • Report all defects to Supervisor

  • Undertake any other duties as and when required

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and manual handling. Need to be able to demonstrate an awareness of what COSHH is as you will be using chemicals and will be responsible for your own safety.

  • Good communication skills both oral and written

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and relevant chemicals - training will be provided on this.

  • No experience in a similar role is requires as full training will be provided

  • Technical experience, in a mechanical or engineering field is desirable

When carrying out underframe cleaning the role is a lone working role.

  • Ensure compliance with the BMS procedures relative to their position

  • Follow emergency procedures

  • Wear approved protective clothing and using safety equipment when required by health and safety regulations

  • Use all equipment provided safely and notifying local management of any observed deficiencies or defects as soon as they become apparent

  • Inform management of any changes in materials, plant or processes and of any new materials, plant or processes which become apparent in the course of work that may impact on safety or the environment

  • Inform management of any potential improvements that could improve the company's environmental performance

  • Immediately inform management of any observed hazards, injuries or dangerous occurrences, which become apparent during work

  • Stop work when instructed to do so and only resume or commence work when instructed it is safe to do so

  • Report all safety and environmental incidents and accidents
