Adecco are currently recruiting for a passionate advocate for criminal justice to join the Cheshire Cares Hub in Winsford for an initial 3 month contract as a Victim Care Officer.


The post is full-time, and will support some home working, as well as required attendance in the office in Winsford. Salary is £23776 p/a (inclusive of shift allowance).


To ensure the service is delivered to all victims of crime in the Cheshire Police area, this team work on a rota system. Shifts are generally 0800-1600, or 1200-2000. Weekend working is required for 2 weekends in 6 on a 0900-1600 shift.


The purpose of the role is to make contact with all victims of crime in the Cheshire area on behalf of the police to ensure practical and emotional support is available to them during the investigation and aftermath of the offence.


Duties will include:



  • Making first contact with all victims of non-domestic violence or non-sexual crime through phone, email or text.

  • Ensure that all victims are aware of the service offered, and organise further support should the client request it.

  • Providing practical advice and resource for those who are concerned about their physical safety - e.g. organise door and window locks & personal safety alarms.

  • Giving emotional support where needed by acting as a confidential and empathetic ear.

  • Listening carefully to clients and identifying where there may be vulnerability or safety issues and raising it with the appropriate resources.

  • Offer appropriate support services and signposting for those with further needs - e.g. GP, mental health services, advocacy, needing support for court attendance.


Key Skills



  • A passion and understanding of the criminal justice system

  • Experience in providing support, guidance or advice to vulnerable people

  • Excellent communication skills

  • The ability to ask thoughtful questions and listen for signs of vulnerability/safety concerns

  • Good general IT skills

  • Ability to priories own workload
