Position Objective and Responsibilities

Job Title: Shift Manager

Reports to Site Operations Manager

Position Objective

As Shift Manager you will oversee the operations covering the inbound, picking and the outbound processes for all our customer's orders. This includes the management of employees in receiving, warehousing and distribution operations by enforcing operational policies and procedures as set out in the company Quality Management System. The role also ensures that training, safety; delivery and budget objectives are met. You will where possible have a positive impact on results, enhance profitability and assist the business to meet its objectives and goals.

Position Responsibilities

1. To lead by example and set a high level of consistent productivity and customer service that is sustainable to all staff members
2. Maintain consistent quality control in line with policies across all stocked items minimising damages, loss and picking errors
3. Oversee and monitor safe working practices and adhere to safety measures making sure health, safety, hygiene and the welfare of employees
4. Implement and enforce occupational Health & Safety procedures in line with the company Health & Safety policy
5. Control of staff schedules ensuring enough trained staff are available to meet the workload demands in line with budget allocations, this also covers the approval and management of holiday rosters
6. To undertake the strict control of all warehouse operational administration duties which will include, receiving, shipping documents as well as all internal inventory control processes
7. Motivating, organising and promoting teamwork within the warehouse workforce to ensure all set productivity targets are met, this includes team briefings
8. Forward planning to manage peak periods making sure all customers demands are achieved in an efficient manner achieving on time delivery
9. Oversee and co-ordinate all planned maintenance, service and repairs to MHE and other warehouse equipment
10. Ensure all employees using MHE or equipment have current licenses and have a full understanding of all equipment
11. Responsible for all direct waste management related tasks, it is vital you ensure all waste is appropriately disposed of properly and safely, identifying ways to limit waste to landfill
12. Monitor all warehouse consumable stock levels ensuring re-order points are achieved and we experience no stock outs
13. Maintain the physical condition of the warehouse and surrounding yard areas by planning and executing checks and providing orders for repairs or replacements
14. Responding and dealing with customer or supplier communications in an efficient manner
15. Prepare daily / weekly KPI reports as required by the business reporting on exceptions and providing improvement plans
16. Overall responsibility for all aspects of the effective supervision, training & development and health, safety and welfare of your team
17. Ensure through your direct team periodic stock counts and cycle counting
18. Accountable for ensuring that the quality of the products and services within the warehouse is maintained at the highest possible standard for the customer applying the business quality management processes encompassing BRC standards and processes
19. Continual enforcement of the company's Health & Safety policy responsible for safe working conditions and practices within the warehouse and within your team
20. Represent the department on the Health & Safety Committee as required

Key Results Area

1. Achieve all budget and compulsory company KPI's (measure)
2. Deliver budget controls as laid out by your manager
3. Achieve and maintain BRC status for your warehouse operation
4. Compliance with company Quality Management System and no non-conformance
5. Zero returns outstanding post 36 hours
6. LTA (Lost Time Accidents) = Zero
7. Damages < Agreed customer SLA tolerances (measure)
8. Staff training plans as set out by the company

Knowledge and Skills

1. Of a friendly and approachable disposition yet with strong people management skills
2. Possess all relevant MHE training and licenses
3. IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH
4. Comprehensive understanding of management techniques and principles
5. Understanding of budget controls and KPI measures
6. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook (email)
7. Detailed understanding of manual handling techniques
8. Possess a good standard of numeracy and literacy with the ability to read and understand English
9. Customer focused with excellent communication skills
10. Excellent Planning, organising and prioritising skills
