Team Leader - Distribution Center (Day Shift)

Location: Brackmills (on-site)


  • First line manager for the Distribution Center (DC) Teams.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the DC, including all people aspects

  • Providing a 'hands on' approach to ensure the operation achieves its goals while successfully ensuring a high level of effective departmental planning and people management.

  • To identify and action team development needs in the required competencies to meet the logistics performance indicators and productivity levels, and ensure the continued success of the DC.

  • To provide a consistent level of employee relations across the DC

  • Confidently manage first level Employee Relations, allowing the Shift Managers to take a hands on management approach.

  • Ensure effective communication is maintained at all levels, including daily team briefings

  • Assist the Shift Managers with any investigations that need to be undertaken and ensure that complete and accurate information is gathered

  • Pro-active day to day management and monitoring of staff performance against KPI's.

  • Maintain effective communications to ensure successful operation of the site.

  • To implement, manage and maintain the 5S culture.

  • To implement, manage and maintain all set K.P.I. including managing underperforming members of the team.

  • To support the Nightshift Team and Shift Leader with occasional cover to ensure all business requirements are met.

  • Ensure daily requirements of the logistics function are achieved.

  • Manage workload to satisfy customer orders and other operational requirements, through effective planning whilst giving consideration to other areas of the business.

  • Ensure that all customer orders are processed to meet delivery requirements & report any potential shortfalls.

  • Strive to maximize productivity, quality and efficiency across the DC.

  • Monitor staff handling of all the company products and take corrective action to prevent loss or damage.

  • Liaise with Inventory Control and ensure procedures are followed to maintain stock accuracy/integrity.

  • Ensure agreed KPI's are achieved including ISO activities.

  • Keep up to date with Health and safety (HSE) audits and follow up actions to improve the safety of the working environment

  • Promote a positive H&S awareness amongst all of the staff on shift.

  • Conduct daily security checks on all employees and visitors, and as a result, initiate the disciplinary procedure where necessary

  • Ensuring the Warehouse is maintained to 100% 5S levels at all times

  • Leads by example, ensuring that all members of staff are given equal opportunities and site policies are understood by all employees, and adhered to

Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working in a fast pace DC / warehouse environment

  • Advantage: experience in a team lead / similar role

  • Understanding of Health and Safety practices within the DC

  • Working knowledge of multi shipment type of customers

  • PC literate - intermediate level.

  • Working knowledge of JDA & SAP systems

  • Ability to understand and analyze data.

  • Self-motivated & priority driven.

  • Demonstrates initiative in day to day tasks

  • Promotes and implements process improvements.

  • Communicates effectively (both written and oral)

  • Openly works and interacts with other departments

  • Promotes teamwork and assess areas where support may be required
