Adecco are proud to be recruiting on behalf of North Wales Police for a Welsh Translator to join a small, friendly and supportive team on a permanent basis. The company specialise in a range of certification and compliance sectors.


The successful candidate will provide a Welsh/English and English/Welsh translation service (written and simultaneous) to North Wales Police and partners.



Salary - £30,420 to £32,394 pa


Hours - Monday to Friday, full time, office hours with flexi-time


Location - Colwyn Bay Force Headquarters - Hybrid working available

What does the role of Translator involve?



  • Provide a written Welsh/English and English/Welsh translation service for the North Wales Police and partners using various computer applications (e.g Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel, E-mail)

  • Proof read documents that have been translated into Welsh.

  • Quality assure the standard of translated documents with particular regard to accuracy (and consistency of terminology. Certify as competent members of staff who have a satisfactory level of Welsh language skills to produce their own written work in Welsh.

  • Develop and maintain support materials to help promote the use of the Welsh language within North Wales Police (e.g glossary of Welsh terms to be available via the Force Intranet system, library of specialist dictionaries)

  • Provide advice and guidance on the Welsh language and associated policies and procedures to members of staff of North Wales Police and partners.

  • Proof read the work of external translators when work is outsourced due to heavy workloads.

  • Assist the Head of Department with the provision of Welsh language coaching sessions to Chief Officers and staff as required.

  • Represent North Wales Police at specialist meeting and attend other meetings as required



What will I need for the role of Translator?



  • You will be either qualified to degree level or possess an equivalent amount of proven relevant experience in the field of Welsh Translations.

  • Possess proven ability in the field of written Welsh/English English/Welsh translation.

  • Possess a good understanding of Welsh language and grammar.

  • Excellent communication skills both in the medium of Welsh and English, together with the ability to provide advice within the specified field.

  • The use of Information Technology to an intermediate level and working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages

  • Level 5 Welsh
